Thank you for considering being a member of the 2020 Flyte Awards Nominating Committee.
The year 2020 marks the 40th Anniversary of FreesTYle Dunking.
Born right here in the USA, FreesTYle Dunking has become popular worldwide and this year's Flyte Awards are a celebration of that legacy.
Your participation will help us create an experience that such a legacy deserves.
The Flyte Awards nominating committee is composed of impartial former and current dunkers.
The responsibilities of committee members include:
•Determining which categories to honor (for 2021)
•Determining which nominees become the final four nominees that get voted on
•Determining nominees in categories where less than four nominees are submitted
•Submitting performance links for committee to consider for nominee videos
•Helping to promote the nomination and voting process via social media and or personal outreach (Direct link to nominate: usadunk.com/2020-flyte-awards)
•Providing suggestions to make the nominating and voting process smoother and easier for everyone.
TIMELINE
January 15, 2020 - Nomations End
January 16-19, 2020 - Committee Determines Final Four nominees for each category
January 20, 2020 - Final Four nominees announced
January 29-February 2, 2020 Official Voting Period
February 15, 2020 - 2020 Flyte Awards - Winners Announced
2020 CATEGORIES
DNKR of the year
Recognition of the freesTYle DNK athlete who stands out for their contribution to the USA DNK community’s body of work. This athlete will have demonstrated their excellence through an admirable work ethic, the consistent delivery of high quality performances during 2019 and their overall impact on the American DNK community.
DNK show of the year
Recognition of the freesTYle DNK show that stands out for it’s contribution to the USA DNK community’s body of work. This show will have demonstrated excellence through it’s high level of quality, showmanship, innovation, entertainment value and it’s overall impact on the American DNK community. The show recognized by this award must have been performed in front of a live audience at an official competition event or an event where the DNKR’s were paid to perform or otherwise compensated to provide their service.
Solo DNK of the year
Recognition of the freesTYle DNK that stands out for it’s innovation, it’s characteristics of flight and it’s overall entertainment value. The DNK recognized by this award must have been performed in front of a live audience at an official competition event or an event where the DNKR was paid to perform or otherwise compensated to provide their service.
Tandem DNK of the year
Recognition of the freesTYle DNK tandem that stands out for it’s innovation, it’s characteristics of flight and it’s overall entertainment value. The Tandem DNK recognized by this award must have included a minimum of 4 DNKRs, must have been performed in front of a live audience at an official competition event or an event where the athletes were paid to perform or otherwise compensated to provide their service.
Most Viral DNK Clip of the year
Recognition of the freesTYle DNK video clip that garnered the most views on social media. The clip recognized by this award must have been performed in front of a live audience at an event where the DNKR(s) was/were paid to perform or otherwise compensated to provide their service.
Pass of the year
Recognition of the freesTYle DNK pass that stands out for it’s innovation, it’s characteristics of flyte and it’s overall entertainment value. The pass recognized by this award must have been followed by a completed DNK and performed in front of a live audience at an official competition event or an event where the DNKR was paid to perform or otherwise compensated to provide their service.
Throwback DNK Award
Recognition of the solo freesTYle DNK that stands out for it’s innovation, it’s characteristics of flyte and it’s overall entertainment value. The DNK recognized by this award must have been performed prior to January 1, 2000. It must have been performed in front of a live audience at an official competition event or an event where the DNKR was paid to perform or otherwise compensated to provide their service.
Flashback DNK Award
Recognition of the solo freesTYle DNK that stands out for it’s innovation, it’s characteristics of flyte and it’s overall entertainment value. The DNK recognized by this award must have been performed between January 1, 2000 & December 31, 2017. It must have been performed in front of a live audience at an official competition event or an event where the DNKR was paid to perform or otherwise compensated to provide their service.
NEW CATEGORIES
Saved DNK of the year
Recognition of the freesTYle DNK that was saved from the brink. This DNK will have demonstrated suspense at the highest level as the correction to bring the dunk back on course is acknowledged not only by the DNKRs but also the audience. The save must be followed by a made DNK and the overall components of the DNK itself must be combined in a way where the difficulty level can be universally acknowledged as medium to high. The DNK recognized by this award must have been performed in front of a live audience at an official competition event or an event where the DNKR’s were paid to perform or otherwise compensated to provide their service.
Practice DNK of the year
Recognition of the freesTYle DNK performed in practice that stands out for it’s innovation, it’s characteristics of flight and it’s overall entertainment value. The DNK recognized by this award is not required to have been performed in a show or in front of a live audience but must have been performed in 2019.
Lifetime Achievement Award
Recognition of the DNKR or former DNKR who's contribution is an invaluable part of the USA DNK Communities' legacy. The recipient of this award has made a lasting impression on the industry, the sport, the athletes and the way we carry out what we do. We as a community would not be where we are without this recipient's commitment to excellence both on and off the court and their innovative approach to fulfilling their purpose as a member of the USA DNK community. This award will not be on the ballot and will not be voted on by the overall community but will be determined by the nominating committee. The recipient of this year's Lifetime Achievement Award will be our first ever and the recipient's contributions must reflect the weight of the honor.
